Ride to Fish Creek

We left Sturgeon Bay around 8:30 and quickly found ourselves riding in a cool mist along the shores of Lake Michigan. Riding again with Lisa and Lonnie which is great. Greg (of Ann & Greg Fleming, the owners of CT) was riding sweep today so he was with us as well.

The first stop today was the Coast Guard Station at the Sturgeon Bay Canal Lighthouses. I can let the pictures speak for themselves

At around 20 miles we had a rest stop at Cave Point County park. Where the cavernous stone has been carved out by waves. Many different shapes are carved out when the ice builds up along the shore.

We turned inland on our way to Egg Harbor, now riding through apple and cherry country on quiet roads with rolling hills . Beautiful! Lunch was at 34 miles on an outdoor second floor pavilion complete with comfy chairs and excellent food, once again. There were some very interesting sculptures from a gallery in Fish Creek that we’re hoping to visit on Thursday when we have some free time.

It was tempting to hop in the van after lunch cause it was pretty hot and sunny by then but the intrepid 4 soldiered for 8 miles to our destination for 3 nights in Fish Creek. It was a good ride with just one killer uphill and this slightly terrifying downhill

Ann had called when we were on our way to Ludington to tell us that there had been a mix up with our inn reservation in Fish Creek and was terribly apologetic but offered us an option just a block away – sounded fine to us – the accomodation on this trip has been really nice. Well, our next 3 nights are in a gorgeous suite with a living room, kitchenette, laundry, etc. It’s crazy good!

After the after-ride clean up we took a quick stroll along Fish Creek’s main thoroughfare and then walked down to the beach at the end of the street where our hotel is.

There were a couple of badgers on the lawn by then marina. The University of Wisconsin’s mascot is the badger, so I expect that loyal fans have put out these decorations.
