Day 4, 24 miles

Weather forecast was looking a tad dicey today with threats of heavy rain and thunderstorms but morning looked ok so we headed out around 9:30. Temperature was only in the 70s but the humidity was just about as close to actual rain as you can get.

We pulled over for a break after the first big climb at around 7 miles. We both had sore legs and butts after the climbing yesterday and were debating just how short we might make this ride when we saw a tandem cresting the hill, and then another one, and then another. Some “good craic” as the Irish relatives would say happened by the side of the road and we continued on to the lakefront town of Bemus Point.

We fortified ourselves with some ice cream and a stroll along the waterfront and then headed back hoping that our short ride would beat the rain. Used this sign as an excuse to stop at the top of another hill. No clue what it means

I guess if you need some hot fish that’s the place to get them! Not much farther along we followed the tour leaders, Rich and Lindy, to a local cheese shop that they knew. This very nice woman makes the cheese right there and it is delicious! The man in the picture is her grandfather who started the business

I checked Dark Sky as we left and saw heavy rain starting in 1 minute. We decided to deploy the rain gear and it was a good call cause Dark Sky is pretty much always right on the local rain prediction. We were very, very wet and getting wetter by the minute when Tom saw a tandem parked at a gas station. Paula and Jim, a couple from Tewksbury had taken refuge inside so we bought a snack and joined them until the rain started to let up.

It was a good ride. Happy to have the warm shower after and now looking forward to dinner tonight with Paula and Jim and whomever else decides to join in. Forecast for tomorrow not so good but we’ll see…
