Yes, that was a vodka tonic in my hand in that pool and it was delightful! Met up with some of the other riders at Dimitri’s for dinner and then it was off to bed with the alarm set to make sure we were up and packed in time.
We rode to Mayville today. We’ll be staying at the Chatauqua Suites for 3 nights. The ride started under mercifully overcast skies with the usual nasty humidity but temps in the low 80s. Climbing started about 5 miles in to the ride. We were doing just fine but it was definitely real work. Stopped at one plateau for a butt break and I snapped this picture just to feel like I was doing something besides avoiding a bike saddle
Here is the scenic photographer at work – these photos aren’t just random shots, there’s a lot that goes into creating these blog posts:
Imagine our delight when we saw this at the top of a hill around mile 9
Rich and Lindy with smiles and a cooler full of ice to refill our bottles! Enjoyed this sign that happened to be right where they had stopped.
We crested the long steady climbs around 11 miles but there were plenty more shorter climbs to come and we both were appreciating frequent breaks after yesterday’s long day in the saddle.
We hit a bit of a glitch with a road closure but managed to navigate around that only adding 1/2 a mile and maybe a couple of nasty little steep climbs.
All was good until about a mile from the hotel when a very heavy downpour hit. It wasn’t our first rain of the day but it wasn’t the kind of rain that’s safe to ride in. Tom saw another couple pulled under the canopy at a gas station so he pulled in there as well and we waited for the worst of it to pass.
Back on the road we spotted this with yet another couple from the tour sitting at a table
We had sandwiches and carried on to the hotel under now sunny skies. Hotel is very nice, happy hour is at 5 and then dinner at the hotel restaurant. Rides in the area tomorrow if the weather is reasonable.
