We had time on our hands this morning as the tour start in Dunkirk was only a 3 hour drive from Geneva. Stopped at a Starbucks in Canandaiga for coffee and a breakfast sandwich and consulted Trip Advisor for advice on attractions in the area.
Kershaw Park seemed to be the #1 attraction so ….
Absolutely lovely little park on the lake with walking trail, beach, boathouse. Had a nice stroll around the park and especially enjoyed watching a group of lucky dogs that were getting a nice swim in with water toys supplied by their owners.
There is a paddlewheel boat that is used for tours of the lake. Unfortunately the first tour wasn’t until noon; but we walked along the shore out to where the boat is docked.
Arrived in Dunkirk and had lunch at an outdoor food and ice cream stand that was surprisingly good. At the hotel we met up with Rich and Lindy, the tour leaders, and a few other couples who like us, were waiting in the lobby for rooms to be ready. Rich and Lindy were off loading several cases of wine and managed to set up a very nice happy hour reception in their room around 5PM. We and a couple from Canada were the only newbies to Rich and Lindy tours but the group is so welcoming that it was very easy to get acquainted. Dinner was at a local restaurant followed by ice cream and a walk along lake Erie. Excellent start!
