Another great day with the red rocks

Cold morning again! Should start to warm up a bit tomorrow. Decided this would be a good day to visit a couple of the national monuments and maybe take a hike in the afternoon. First stop was Montezuma’s castle, cliff dwelling site dating back to the 1200s.

Stopped for lunch in Cottonwood at the Red rooster and a Yankees fan quickly stuck up a conversation. Tom’s Yankees gear has been quite the conversation starter. The cashier at the IGA was also delighted to see it last night.

Then it was on to Tuzigoot, a partially restored archaeological site.

Somehow a quilt store happened! Nice little place where I picked up a few things, but no major damage done.

Plan was to do a short hike and then find somewhere for the sunset. We happened to see Red Rock Crossing signs and spent some time on a gorgeous scenic route.Well worth it but left us at a somewhat awkward time with regard to sunset.

We decided to take advantage of the early hour and get one of the few parking spots at the Airport Vortex site – supposedly one of the best locations for sunset. We were there around 5:30 so it meant a bit of a wait and it was not warm out! Some of these blog post pictures were uploaded while we waited. Tom went all the way up to the summit but I wimped out and stayed lower. Beautiful sunset, but we were both pretty frozen by the end!
