That vague plan yesterday worked out very well so we headed off this morning with another vague plan to find Anse l’eau. No idea of what exactly is there aside from a beach, but big enough on the map that we would expect to see road signs. We traveled some of the same back roads as yesterday and mostly stayed in really nice farmland but we did hit some very rough pavement. Here are a couple of pictures we took at the end of one rough stretch. You definately need a butt break when you’re riding over that stuff! This cow was having a very early siesta
This was field of lettuce. We are wishing we had this kind of soil in the yard
One of the many abandoned windmills on Guadeloupe; from the heyday of sugar plantations. Lots of modern windmills on the coast now and tons of solar panels; we passed another big solar farm today
This sign seemed a bit dicey but we followed it anyway
The road quickly turned to rocky dirt and a man walking by warned us that it was tres dificile ahead. At least we’re pretty sure that’s what he said. We eventually had to get off and walk and after doing that for a while decided that maybe Anse A L’Eau was not the place to visit on a bike. We had a nice chat with a man riding by on his mountain bike. None of us really knew what was being said but we admired each others bikes and said bon route!
Later we had stopped again for a butt break and there came our friend on the mountain bike. We think he said that in 2 years he is having his bike modified to be electric.
We motivated ourselves to continue the ride to Pointe de Chateaux with the promise of coconut sorbet
24 miles, 1400 feet of climbing. Great ride
Back at the bungalow we had coffee, showers, and lunch! Then it was time for another trip to the hyper casino for supplies. Tonight will be salmon and some pomme de terre from France. I’m guessing that will be the extent of our activities. The breeze on the porch lulls you into utter laziness. Apparently some Candians are arriving tonight – wonder if they will speak English. We will have to show them a picture of our Canadian American granddaughter!
