Biking for beer!

Woke up to a beautiful morning; we finally have a gorgeous fall day for biking. Matt was out playing with Althea bright and early and then he and I went and gathered  eggs from the hen house for breakfast. The goats came out for a morning stroll around the lawn as well

We took our time with a hearty breakfast and getting all organized for a ride as it was pretty nippy. Plan was to ride into EastSound and back; not big miles but would let us enjoy the island and spend some time enjoying Pebble Cove Farm in the afternoon.

We took Crow Valley road to Eastsound which was really nice scenery, rolling hills and light traffic. Once in Eastsound we strolled around town

and paid a visit to the Brown Bear Baking Co for some caffeine and treats – yum!

Lydia had pointed out the Island Hoppin Brewery yesterday so we had to pay a visit there. We had a couple of tasting flights; very nice and good variety. Everyone feeling happy at the end

enjoyed this bumper sticker in the brewery parking lot

Ride back was going well until we heard a weird noise on the tandem a few miles from Pebble Cove and just as a big dump truck was passing us on the narrow winding road Tom discovered that we’d lost the back brake! Took a while but he got us to a stop and we were very lucky to have Matt – an excellent bike mechanic – right there with us! Looked like the cable had just gotten loose enough that it had popped out and Matt whipped out a socket tool and got us back on the road in no time.

Back at Pebble Cove, Matt and Lara took the tandem out for a spin. They started with a trip into the bamboo bush that I’m pretty sure was unintentional but their next attempt was far more successful. The pony, Buddy, seemed quite concerned about all the commotion and came out on the driveway to check things out. He was quite insistent about being petted and seemed especially fond of me – could have been the peanut bar I was eating

We pooled out supplies and our hot plates and cooked up an excellent pasta and veggie dinner. We all loved the smoked gouda goat cheese that Tom and I had found in Eastsound – a local treat worth coming back for.
