It just keeps getting better

We stopped in our next door small store this morning for some basic provisions including a couple of bottles of wine. Young woman working there spoke no English but saw Tom looking at the wine and came to point out a couple that were good. Then we went for a walk leaving around 9 and following the carnaval parade route that Tom had found on line. Took us past the city hall with very nice fake palm tree

past an elementary school where they have the typical colored barriers and crazy speed bumps

down a neighborhood street with an excellent example of Basse Terre moats

past one of many carnaval signs

and into a main square where preparations for the carnaval are in full swing and where we found our neighborhood essential. It appears to be a law that baguettes cost 1 euro and wow are they good. We picked up our daily baguette and sat for a while with an espresso and croissant.

Not sure of eating plans for the day, but a poulet roti seemed like a good idea. Common sight on the street. Tom says Guadeloupe version of KFC

Detoured a bit from parade route to walk by the water.  Beautiful fishing port

Crazy hot and humid by the time we got back around 10!

Chilled on the porch a bit and then headed out again around 11. Down the street to the coast and walked to end in one direction and then turned around to follow it back to town center. Look, Katie, it is outdoor KoKo Fit Club!

Town center getting busier with more food trucks and people coming in. Got a manioc with nutella. Guadeloupe version of fried dough?

Back at the apartment we had a snack on the patio. Every local, including children, that goes by says bonjour at the very least and we heard plenty of “bonjour mosieur et madame” and “bon apetit”

Got ourselves set up at end of the block around 3 for the carnaval parade. Here’s the pre-show scene

The first group came by at 3:45 and the last around 6 PM. Here is just a small sampling

yes, wanted to cry when I saw guy on hoverboard! Amazing day!
