Drove to Bloomfield this morning and did the Big Island ride from the BBC’s map. What a good choice! The roads were wonderfully quiet the scenery was great and I think we may have even seen Prince Edward in full armor!
Don’t know if this is typical, but the humidity here is very high. With little shade, this makes for some hot riding although you do get a nice breeze if you keep moving. About half way through the ride we started looking for a lunch spot to have our picnic. We found this lovely spot under a tree
As we were getting ready to settle in the branch that you see on the ground fell out of the tree and hit Tom on the head. He didn’t like that and sat out in the sun instead.
You can see here how high the water level is
This nasty little cloud followed us for a while but it was all talk and no action
We were dragging a bit as we pulled back into Bloomfield after 35 miles, 1600 feet of climbing. We enjoyed an iced coffee in some Adirondak chairs in town, got some more provisions and headed back to the campsite, arriving around 5PM. Hot sun and tired bodies has reduced our dinner plan to kidney bean salad and baguette. We will both sleep well tonight except maybe for Tom whose turn it is to sleep on the air mattress that is leaking 🙁
