The bus ride from SeaTac to the cruise doc was around 3 hours with quick crossing at the border and no sign of the expected FIFA gridlock. And here it is – the Nieuw Amsterdam!

We’ve been on this ship for a couple of Blues cruises but this is our first experience in a Neptune Suite. The room is fabulous and we had room service for breakfast out here

But let’s go back to night one on the ship. It started out as you would expect with some safety stuff and a bit of get acquainted wandering around. Neptune Suites include a welcome bottle of champagne so we, of course, shared a glass with our cruising friends before a quick change to look respectable for dinner. Dinner was fine and we had a glass of wine with our meal as one does. We then made haste to get in on the Neptune lounge reception where they emphasize that they will fix any and all problems for you and welcomed us to join them in a sparkling wine. You can see where this is going. With nothing better to do – who needs to unpack anyway – we attended a World Stage Show with the ship’s entertainers and then went on to enjoy several sets of Aft Punk in the Rolling Stone Lounge. Bar service is very attentive in these locations. Tom snuck a shot in as the evening grew late and then joined us on the dance floor. A lot of people were having a great time last night including the four of us!

Today we enjoyed some time in the Thermal Suite, talks on the upcoming ports, and generally had a very relaxing day at sea. Tomorrow we’ll be up bright and early for Ketchikan!
