We start with a few days in Portland then head to Vancouver to start our Alaska adventure. Next up is a few days in Seattle, Amtrak’s Empire Builder to spend a few days in Chicago, and then back home. We’re packing for everything from chilly temperatures in Denali and rainy excursions to July 4th heat in Chicago!
Four planes

Two trains
Three boats
And two buses that I’m sure we’ll be happy to forget
So where’s the bikes? Stay tuned for Anchorage. We have to put an Alaska bike sticker on the map!
Portland
We arrived Monday night and were greeted at the door by the very handsome but rather shaggy Pedey

Tuesday was a jet lag perfect relaxing day until we ventured out to a coffee shop with Elizabeth. Tom was making some real funny noises and sucking his thumb after he got out and closed the car door. Can’t blame him for that given what happened.

That gave us the opportunity to visit one of Portland’s fine Urgent Care facilities Wed morning. The doctor recommended ordering an extra cocktail on our upcoming cruise and sticking that poor thumb in it to reduce swelling. Some people thought that was funny!
Wednesday evening Jeannie had a wonderful birthday dinner followed by cake with nieces and grand nieces and nephews.

Thursday was another gorgeous weather day. We went to the Sugar Pine Drive-In on the Sandy River with Hilary. The food was fantastic! A short walk took us down to a very cold and fast moving river with a small sandy beach. The water temperature was 54 degrees thanks to Mt. Hood runoff.

Gorgeous again on Friday! We had a lovely walk in Peninsula Park, the original Portland Rose Garden.

Then Elizabeth took us on a tour at Creo Chocolate! We tasted SO much chocolate and got to make our own custom chocolate bar. So if you picked up the cinnamon shaker in that situation would you expect little fine holes or great big ones?

We will let you know how the super cinnamon chocolate bar tastes.
