North Western State Trail

We did a quick replan last night and pushed the Mackinac Island trip to tomorow to give us warmer weather and we hoped, time for a longer trail ride today.

We drove to Spring Lake Park to ride the North Western Trail. It was almost 11 when we got there but still feeling pretty chilly. The trail was good pavement and nice scenery for the 6 miles to Oden where it starts running right next to the highway. We turned around there and stopped on the way back at a fish hatchery.

Love their bike rack

We took a walk to the underwater viewing area and the fish ponds. The day was warming up and it was nice to be out in the sun

After lunch in a trailside brew pub we tried to extend our ride on the Little Traverse Trail which intersects the NorthWestern State Trail. I’m sure that it is very handy for commuting, but it runs right along the highway so not very enjoyable riding. We turned around after a few miles and came back to the car, 15 miles total which now seems very short. We took a walk on Spring Lake Park’s wetland boardwalk trail. I love all the water lilies. All in all a good day!
