A windy day!

We knew it was windy when we left Escanaba this morning but we had packed the car pretty quickly and didn’t really grasp the extent of the wind until our first stop. Following another of the scenic tours that Tom found until we stopped at Fayette State Park.

The park tells the story of the remote community that manufactured charcoal pig iron from 1867-1891. The temperature was 51 when we arrived and the wind around 20mph. What a change from the heat wave we’ve been having!

We did a fairly quick visit of the restored buildings and the model in the visitor’s center and then hopped back into the car as we were really, really cold.

Our destination today was Mackinaw City and a hotel very close to the ferry to Mackinac Island where we’ll spend the day tomorrow. Mackinac is car free so everyone brings or rents a bicycle – our kind of place! It will be a chilly morning but the wind will be calm and it will get warmer during the day.
