Cruisin’ the Delta

Biscuits, beer, fried catfish, and many other food and beverage sins motivated us to visit the Arkansas Delta Heritage Trail this morning. We had read that the Visitor Center rents bicycles and sure enough, these little babies were just waiting for us

Quite the “interesting” rides! My cruiser was a tad on the big side so it was a rather tiring bike for my poor arms but the seat sure was comfy! The trail is very shady and open to occasional views of the cotton fields

Our ride was fairly short, about 10 miles total, but that was just about enough for a rail trail on cruisers. After showering up back at the Delta Digs, we headed back to Helena for our first full day at the Biscuit.

We were surprised to find free on street parking right on the edge of downtown (Porter street). Main street Helena has several stages, sidewalk performers and many vendors; all free. You only need a ticket to enter the Main Stage area. We set up our chairs on the levee behind the main stage. The sun was beating down on us but we tooks some breaks to get food and walk around and eventually the sun set behind the stage and the temperature dropped steadily.Fortunately, we learned our lesson Wed night and were well prepared with long sleeved shirts.

Between Joe Louis Walker and Tab Benoit (both amazing BTW), many dignataries took to the stage to give speeches and announce that perpetual rights to the King Biscuit name had finally been obtained! This was a big deal that merited a special sign and fireworks!
