We pulled in to Casita Red Rock in the dark and rain last night so didn’t see much until the morning. The Casita is delightful!
It was still rainy and quite cold this morning. We went to the Coconino Ranger Station and Visitor Center, getting our first taste of the red rock scenery. Stunningly beautiful! I was wowed by the time we had driven the 5 miles to the visitor center! We got great info from one of the rangers there and then headed back to Oak Creek Village for some coffee and planning.
As we stood in line at the Village Grind the owner came out, looked at Tom and said “there’s a real nice espresso shop down the road and you know you’re getting decaf, right?”. Poor Tom decided it would be safe to wear his Yankees jacket once he got well away from Massachusetts. Nope, those Yankees get people riled up everywhere!
With storm clouds still threatening we started driving North, stopping at several of the trail heads and very slowly making our way to the town of Sedona. I have to let the pictures speak for themselves
The Chapel of the Holy Cross is a beautiful building in a magnificent setting
Just outside Sedona we stopped for some lunch and as I got out of the car 2 ladies from Texas came up and asked if I would take their picture and then wanted to take one of me. They were very sweet! The view from the restaurant was staggering!
The less said about the town of Sedona the better. Don’t bother. We went to the Sedona Airport mesa to watch the sun go down and were joined there by a fair number of people. We will need to be out for every sunset here. There is magic in Sedona.
