Nice breakfast buffet at the B&B this morning. We decided to give the Portland Fire Co. 50 minute tour a try. It’s an old firetruck that does narrated tour of the city – locally owned, small time operation with just the one truck. The walk there was a bit over a mile and we were both sweating up a storm by the time we got there for the 11 AM tour. Really glad we did it though as there was no kitschy banter or bell ringing, just a very good driver and informative tour guide. Here’s the truck and a few other pictures along the way
Next stop was a Starbucks to try and cool down and rehydrate a bit. Tom realized that we had not in fact gone to the top recommended gelato place last night so we had to rectify that! Fortunately, the top one was close by so we split a small gelato and then strolled off for some lunch. You can see what the theme is going to be for this day! About 1/2 a mile to lunch and again we were soaked with sweat. Fixed that with a couple of cold beers and an excellent salad and pizza at Ottos.
Saw this along the way. It’s the Maine Lobsterman
Next stop was the Portland Museum of Art which, thankfully was close by. Really nice collection. Special exhibit was Women of New York artists including Georgia O’Keefe. No food or beverages were consumed at the museum, but the day was still young and we had tickets for the Portland Seadogs game.
Our pre-game dinner was at a barbecue place close to the park. It was okay but nothing memorable. Memorable came mid-game when we had the infamous SeaDog Biscuit! That is local ice cream in between 2 delicious chocolate chip cookies. What a treat! Great little park and interesting team. They even played Sweet Caroline in the 8th but they didn’t quite get it – someone needs to do a field trip to Fenway and get that right!
All uphill on the way back and warm enough that I was sweating when we walked in. It’s been a hot one, but what a great city. Here’s some pics from tonights game
