Rosie turned 3 today! We headed to Blue Lake this morning, a fantastic park about 30 minutes away. The kids had a great romp around the park as a gaggle of grownups chased them
In true NW Oregon fashion, the rain started to pour down but the timing was good as it was close to lunch time and the park has really nice pavilions.
So there we were singing Happy Birthday to Rosie in the rain and having a great time!
I reallly enjoyed the ride there and back sitting with Ames in the third row. You learn a lot about poop and skunks and other stinky things from a 6 year old boy!
Jen lent us her fabulous, brand new Honda Oddessy for the afternoon. Mini vans sure have come a long way. Very high tech and very comfortable. Best of all, Pearl can roll right in with no disassembly
We drove about an hour to Vernonia to ride the Vernonia Banks rail trail. Here’s few pictures of the first segment. You can see the sky was a bit threatening
About 8 miles in there is a sign saying steep grade, walk bikes. We complied and were very glad that we did. The grade is steep and there are multiple hairpin turns that we wouild never have made on the tandem.
That descent ended in a trailhead that was a great spot for a snack that Elizabeth had packed for us. Yum! We also appeared to have dodged the dark sky and were seeing some sun now and again.
We got our workout for the day walking back up the hill
Back at our starting point, we took a loop ride around a lake that was just beautiful
Packed Pearl back up and headed back to Portland. Garmin was dead but I would guess about 20 miles total. We stopped for a few things on the way back and saw this in the parking lot. I’m sure glad Jen has an Odessey!
