The bird alarm clock went off before 6 as usual. I started fantasizing about reaching my hand out and smacking a bird on the head just like you do with a snooze button. On the plus side, the bay is really beautiful first thing in the morning. We got up and kicked into our morning camp routine. First stop was the sinks at the main park for a quick wash. As I waited for Tom I discovered a way to settle the question of my height for once and for all
Next stop was the Edenton coffee shop for our breakfast paninis and coffees. They’ve had this bicycle out every day and I suspect it was decorated by the makers of the many, many knit animal toys that are displayed in the shop
Popsicles: it was cold this morning! We started riding a little after 8 and I was definately feeling like a popsicle for the first few miles. That got me started thinking about this bizzare snack that has been at all of the rest stops; pickle pops and sometimes pickle paks which are a snack pak like you would have applesauce in only it’s pickles! So here’s the proof. Picture taken at one of the rest stops
That’s a very popular snack here and supposedly will prevent leg cramps. I just couldn’t do it.
Now Perfect. Blue sky, no humidity, just cool enough for a jacket. Doesn’t get better than this for riding. There hasn’t been much variety in ride scenery. Mostly big flat fields like this one that we think is potatoes
Now we’re in a great big room at the Comfort Inn in Williamsburg. It has a real bathroom and a tub and we are getting all showered and doing some laundry and wow this feels luxurious after 3 days of tents, porta potties and shower trucks! We’ll give Pearl a rest day and tour Colonial Williamsburg tomorrow and see if the visitor center has any tips for biking to Yorktown and Jamestown on Tuesday and Wednesday. Those rides should be a straight shot down the Colonial Parkway.
Update with a couple of pictures from Roccos Smokehouse Grill. Good meal and back in time for GOT premier!
