Pointe a Pitre, largest city on Guadeloupe and home to the brand new Memorial ACTe, the caribbean center of expressions and memory of the slave trade and slavery. It opened in May 0f 2015 built on the site of a former sugar factory. The sugar plantations drove much of the slavery in Guadeloupe. We spent about 2 and half hours in the exhibits and it flew by. The museum building is stunning. There is a multilingual program on audio that pairs with accompaning video as you travel through the exhibits. It’s a fascinating and very sobering broad history of slavery with paticular focus on the Carribean.
We enjoyed lunch at their casual restaurant. It was delicious as every meal has been here and accompanied by the usual glass of very decent wine! We did treat ourselves to a dessert
After lunch we walked through a high bridge that leads to a small garden area. Beautiful views of the city and the museum building.
