Our shopping yesterday definitely put us in the category of old people that just don’t give a damn. Check out my new hat and Tom’s water shoes! That was us on the Marina at 7AM this morning for all day excursion to Marie Galante. Catamarran was fun and all of the men had a great time when they got to pitch in raising the main sail.
They anchored near a beach and ferried us in on small boats so you basically had to jump off into the water. When everyone had been beached, we hauled our soggy asses onto a bus and embarked on a tour of the island. Keep in mind that all of this is happening in French so we are basically clueless and just watching the countryside go by. The stops were about what you’d expect on a bus tour; distillery, historic sugar plantation, manioc farm, and nice view. All nice places I’m sure but landing there with 45 people and having a set departure kind of blows. I really hate bus tours.
Back at the beach, the boat crew served up a very nice meal of salad, barbecued fish, rice, and various beverages including wine and the famous Ti punch. We had a bit of time for swimming – water was fantastic – and then the fun started as they had to stuff us all back into the little boat from the beach this time. Given the waves and little old ladies like me, there were some funny scenes but everyone made it back to the catamarran and we had good trip back.
We cruised the marina for essentials – a bauguette and wine – and hit pay dirt! Baugette was warm out of the oven and with that a couple of bottles of wine we are tucked into the bungalow for the evening. Planning a repeat of last night’s dinner which I have included here.
Also, observe the cow. They all have antlers here.
