We woke up early and both got a shower in. No sign that water was off when we left around 9 for the bike store; Revolution Bikes on 6th st. We went with the hybrid/commuter option rather than road bikes and made it onto the Coronado ferry with about 2 minutes to spare. Bringing bikes to Coronado is clearly very popular and yes, another perfect weather day
Once we landed on Coronado we started our ride in the usual way
Bayshore Bikeway is just great. Starts right at the Ferry landing is completely separate except for a tiny bit that is on road but with beautifully marked and generous bike lane.
This may be one of my most favorite bike sculptures ever; great motion with wheels spinning in the breeze
Just a few scenes from along the way. Went by several harbors and wow there are some big fancy boats docked on Coronado!
This photo op was fun; some sort of migrating/protected bird. Very fancy info on that birdie! At the same location there was an egret that appeared to be putting on a show for us. I believe he was quite disappointed in my photo skills
Weird rock formation – no clue what this means
Stopped for water refill and discovered fancy hopscotch board
Memorial to some biker couple in a dog park?
Some sort of hydro preserving plantings in same dog park
And then we reached the end of the trail. We could have headed straight into San Diego, but OH NO, not us, it was only 1pm so we decided to head down some trail that looked parallel to the Bayside and head back to Coronado figuring we would get a bite to eat and then take the ferry back. It was a plan….
Trail we went down was really interesting with lots of low water type plantings and some stuff that belonged to the Civilian Conservation Corps. Then BAM! We are in Home Depot and Walmart city with, thank god, a bike lane. Made our way back to the Bayside trail through strip mall insanity and then the fun began.
You think you know about headwinds? Wow – this was a winner! There were times when my little legs were spinning like mad but forward progress was miniscule. We made it back, a bit worse for the wear but not all that bad. Grabbed a couple of coffees and a strawberry yogurt parfait and got on the ferry.
Back at Mudville Flats, the shower was good and then we had a most excellent dinner at Bodega Americano. The T in Boston has suspended service for tomorrow because of cold and snow. We might just stay here.
Here’s what we both felt like at the end of the day
